SEED OF ABRAHAM
Thursday – Aug 10, 2017
This is one of my favorite pictures taken where the Bartlett Road transects the railroad tracks in Belgrade Maine. As you can tell, it is fall, there is color in the leaves and a mist in the air. Welcome back to our Bible Study led by Dr. Wood and presented by The Three Minute Word publications. God is so good. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary test in the Book of Hebrews and we will start by putting our focus on the sixteenth verse (sixteen the number of love).
Hebrews 2:14-18 (KJV)
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Most other Bible Translations of verse sixteen read as the one following from the Amplified Version. Notice that in the King James Version much of the verse is in italics.
Hebrews 2:16 (AMP)
16 For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand].
So, the take away message is that Jesus came, spilled innocent Blood, died spiritually and physically, descended into Hell, overcame death and hell. He led the Old Testament saints held captive free. He was resurrected from the spiritually dead and the physically dead and restored as God. Jesus did not do that for the devil and his bunch but for mankind. Jesus is THE Seed of Abraham. When by faith we declare Christ as Lord then we receive the blessing of Abraham. The blessing of Abraham is the empowerment to receive the Holy Spirit, not only the breath of life which quickens us (salvation) but the in filling and overflow of the Holy Spirit (baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues). Now, let’s go ahead and read this wonderful secondary text from Galatians.
Galatians 3:6-9 (KJV)
6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Faith is the lynchpin of life and the lack of faith brings death.
Galatians 3:13-16 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
The New Covenant (Testament) of Blood to be ratified by Jesus as man and God was to Abraham and THE SEED (Jesus). You will see this in the fifteenth chapter of Genesis. Abraham entered this Covenant by faith and that is exactly how we enter the Covenant. We believe (exercise of faith) the gospel and upon the name of Jesus. In Genesis 15:17, the smoking furnace is the Holy Spirit, and the burning lamp is Jesus thus the term Christ in verse sixteen above. Genesis is the first book of the Bible and has to do with unity, fifteen is the number of rest which is God’s provision, and seventeen is the number of victory. Wow! We are restored as one with God by His provision of redemption. Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit obtained our victory from His work at the Cross of Calvary to being restored and seated on the Throne of Heaven at the right hand of Majesty on high.
Galatians 3:28-29 (KJV)
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Consider the following Scripture.
Romans 4:16 (KJV)
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Notice that the preceding verse encompasses Jew and Gentile alike. It is all by faith, always has been, and always will be. As I finish up today I want us to understand a couple of fundamental Truths. First is that the terms of the Blood Covenant which was to be ratified (confirmed) by the Lamb of God through the Eternal Spirit was read in the presence of Abraham, the Father (Jehovah), the Lamb of God, and the Eternal Spirit. The Lamb of God with the help of the Holy Spirit is the surrogate who shed innocent blood for man and God confirming and sealing the Covenant for eternity. The second point is that the Church does not replace the Jews, we are fortunate to be grafted in among them, into the same eternal root. The root is God, the olive tree is Israel, and the wild olive tree is we Gentiles.
Romans 11:16-20 (KJV)
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
